LouderVoice Wins a Golden Spider

November 22nd, 2009 | Posted in Blog

We were terribly disappointed last Thursday that massive flooding in West Cork prevented us from attending the 2009 Golden Spiders Awards. The awards are the most high profile in Ireland and a win can have serious business benefits locally.

So imagine our shock to hear that we won the e-business category! We were up against some incredibly impressive competition. Getting this recognition from our industry peers on the judging panel really is satisfying.

The timing couldn't be better. November sees us announce our 2009 BES for investors, win that award, launch on our first major US site (stay tuned!),  and announce our channel partner program (also stay tuned!). You can expect even more big announcements at Le Web in Paris on Dec 9th and 10th.

A huge thanks to Sabrina Dent who designed this new site with zero notice and accepted the award on our behalf. The LouderVoice business reviews service itself has been built by a great distributed team assisting us, including Bartosz Ptaszynski, Lukasz Baczynski and Blair Millen.

  1. Congratulations Conor!

    That's brilliant.

  2. Congrats Conor & Catherine and everyone involved on LouderVoice. Was such a pity you weren't there, but we celebrated in fine style on your behalf! They bring the whole table a bottle of champagne if someone on the table is a winner ;)

    Guys,
I wish to also offer my congratulations as a current particpant in the Genesis programme in the Rubicon. It lifts the spirits seeing companies such as Lodervoice out there, winning awards and doing business.
    Best regards

For those who think a web-site design is just the template, you need to read Sabrina's post here.

As I said on Twitter earlier, "Get template for site" is step 1. Now do steps 2-19.

  6. Sabrina Dent says:

Mike, let's be very clear here.

1/ Conor and I agreed to use a template to save time from the start. I showed him the one I wanted to use; he had already browsed it and loved it, so we were absolutely on the same page here.

2/ I billed LV for 21 hours of work on this site. Of that, about *two* was spent tweaking the template. All of the rest was for copywriting, product re-development, and a handful of graphics.

3/ When I put this project in my portfolio, I was clear that "it wasn’t really a design job; with very, very little time available, we used a commercial WordPress template..." The post where I stated this is also tagged "customised stock layout." I could not have been more transparent about the origins of this site.

4/ LouderVoice for Business won Best E-Business. It did not win, nor was it up for, a design award. I have never submitted a template-based site for a design award, ever.

As I said, I'm note sure anybody could have been more up-front about the evolution of Louder Voice for Business, but since you seem very confused, I hope this clarifies things for you.

We concur 100% with everything Sabrina said there. We set her an impossible task and she delivered way beyond that.
