Golden Tulip Opera Noailles Hotel

Hotel located in superb location near the Opera. Metro stations only 2 minute walk away. Taxi from Gare du Nord cost about 7.00 - we thought it easier than changing metro lines. Open top bus tour stops outside the Opera where you can get to see all the sights. Plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars all within a short stroll. Its not in the middle of the touristy spots - thank God. So it can seem a little quiet. But I found that to be a good thing. The hotel itself is fairly basic but very very clean. The room was probably slightly larger than most Paris hotel rooms. Room we had was newly decorated and in a contemporary style. Very nice! Bathroom was plenty big. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help us with directions, taxis, maps etc. They all had good english. Only had one minor gripe - our room was located on the ground floor (I think only one of two there). The metro line obviously passed underneath the hotel and you could hear the rumblings of the trains. Although it was feint and didn't cause us to loose any sleep it might annoy other people. I presume the upper floors would not be affected. Did note in the reception area that this particular hotel had been awarded the 'Best Hotel in France' for the Golden Tulip Group - that has to say something. Overall I would recommend this hotel and next time I'm staying in Paris I will be back. Ideal for the 2 night short break we had during the recent rugby match.
