Dornfelder (German Red Wine!)

Germany isn't noted for its red wines, but it is actually grows more Pinot Noir than any other country bar France. Its second-most planted red grape is Dornfelder. I picked up a bottle in Bandon recently in an off-licence whose name I can't remember. Priced in low teens, I think.
Anyway, I was very impressed. I've had lots of German Riesling before, but this was quite possibly the first German red wine I ever tasted. Fresh on the palate, and medium/light bodied. Not unlike a good Cru Beaujolais. Dark cherry bubblegum, rose petals, aniseed, even a touch of rubber.
