Just when I thought they were on the right track, they pull this clunker out of the hat. Back to poor humour, slapstick and special effects from the Evil Dead school of no-money.
The first chunk jumps between Gwen's Hen night and her earlier encounter with a shapeshifter. Shapeshifting in this case meaning "dracula teeth, nails and make-up from the local joke shop". She wakes up to find herself pregnant. It transpires that the bite she received the previous night (no, not snakebite) has left her impregnanted with the the evil spawn of this nasty creature. I assume they are basing this episode on the Charlotte Church story.
Lots of silliness ensues and I was happy to see that "Banana" didn't get the chop since there is the makings of a legendary anti-hero there. Could Jack make him go gay? See next weeks episode "The only non-gay in the village".
So dead shape-shifter has a female partner. She appears to devour one poor sod through his knob, which is hardly the most efficient way of doing it unless he was hung like a donkey. This knob-power makes her impervious to normal bullets. Lots of running around in bad make-up followed by Singularity Scalpel removing Ripley's, sorry, Gwen's growth and BFG blows away the shapeshifter.
They all live happily ever after and RetCon ensures that no-one remembers anything. Nice piece at the end where Jack goes back through ancient photos and we see a wedding photo of him. It actually felt authentic. More of that please.

Brilliant review! And I couldn't agree with you more: "special effects from the Evil Dead school of no-money" I realise we must expect a certain level cheesiness with any science fiction these days but to be honest, even taking this into account, I was ready to give up on Torchwood because the storylines have been so crappy of late. Then we had two fairly decent episodes focussing on Owen, both great story-telling; my enthusiasm was rekindled, but then this...ho hum!TV Treats at 18:21 - 13 Mar, 2008 said:
Speaking of Owen, what the heck happened to that story line? It was barely mentioned in this weeks episode. Will he be magically fixed or will it just become an odd dead-end (pun intended).
