As the son of a Wexford man I was totally on the side of Wexford. Even taking that into consideration, I thought they were the more interesting team. As for managers, well I know which one I'd prefer and it's the slaphead.
Maybe I just have more of a link with Wexford. We pass the signs for Taghmon every time we go to Rosslare and we've been on holidays many times to Curracloe. Or maybe there was just more passion from both team and coach. Either way, I was egging on Wexford all the way through.
Ivan always struck me as potentially a great leader of a political party but obviously business interested him more. His absolute unapologetic desire to always win is refreshing in a country of "ah shur don't mind me" characters. The only criticism I would have of his managerial style (which his mentor also picked up on) was his constant use of the stick, rather than a bit of carrot too.
As for Kiltimagh, well poor Aoibhinn really doesn't have much to say. A lightweight in every way I guess. Seems like a nice girl. Smiles a lot. Uttterly useless at managing a football team. Her pep talk before the match was utterly forgettable whereas Ivan's will be drilled into the heads of those players for a long time to come.
Then came the match. A real cliff-hanger with the score bouncing back and forward between two ok teams. The weather didn't help. They headed into injury time with Wexford deservedly ahead (I felt). Then right at the last second - goooooalllllllll. Wow, what an amazing recovery by Mayo! The game was theirs. The old cynic in me suspects some "creative editing" of that goal's timing but even so it was a fantastic end and well done to Kiltimagh. Unfortunately for them, they'll be facing Mayfield next. I predict a bloodbath.
Can't wait for next weeks episode. It looks like the School Marm walks and is replaced by a 1970's radio DJ.

There's something for everyone in that show. It isn't even about sport really, it's about people and what drives them.
