The first episode of this bodes well for the rest of the series. Hanging out in the ghettos of Little Mexico in Los Angeles, we see Mexican food utterly unlike the garabage that passes for it in "Mexican" restaurants.
I used to hate Jamie, now he can almost do no wrong for me. This show mixes food with social commentary in a very acceptable way. The ghetto he was in looked horrendous but it was a relief to see some small sparks of joy and a strong sense of family.
I'm one of those people who detests what passes for Mexican food. Slop+Cheese in a variety of wraps. This bore no resemblance to the light spicy salads they made in this episode.
The next one looks gimmicky with rodeos and cowboys but I'm still looking forward. My only question is, does he make it to the Salt Lick in Austin Texas?

Have to say I failed to see why the LA gangs were brought into it. Just because one guy who was in a gang is now a chef. We really don't need to know about the Crips and the Bloods or any of the rest of them.
