Despite missing the first episode of this Channel 4 documentary series, episodes 2 and 3 have made great viewing. Willie bought a Venezuelan plantation a decade ago and this documentary shows his efforts to convert the cacao harvest from beans to a chocolate product that he can sell.
The engineer in me means I'm enjoying watching the refining process. The trials of bringing the 100% cacao bar to a public that may not be ready for it mean he tries to demonstrate the versatility of the bar through selling/sampling cakes, hot chocolate, mousses etc to the general public at farmer's markets and out and about. As a big choc fan, desserts, truffles he makes during this time have my mouth watering. His use of the bar in savoury dishes look very interesting as does the hot chocolate made from water rather than milk.
The struggles of a business start up, cash flow problems, family-business stress all make compelling viewing. There is no doubt the man has enthusiasm in buckets for his cacao bar and you can't help but hope it all works out in the end. Looking forward to seeing the next episode. #tv
