Abbot's Ale House Bar and Off-Licence - Cork City

Why can't there be more bar's like this? I popped into the Abbot's Ale house for the first time over the weekend and was wondering why it took me so long to discover this place.

The bar can be found on Devonshire street, close to MacCurtain street, the bar is upstairs while the Off-licence is below. There is an amazing selection of beers and stouts available from all across the globe. The barman really knowed his stuff. He was very friendly and took the time to recommend and tell us a lttile bit about the beer's. I sampled an Irish lager called Yellow Beard and my friend had a Warsteiner. The place is small but very cosy with plenty of seating. There was great laid-back music playing in the background that didn't disturb ones conversation. The walls are covered with beermats which add to the informality of the place.

Usually the argument against niche pub's such as this is that you are paying a higher price for quality beers than you might for the mainstream commercial beers. Well on our second round we discovered the Abbots secret weapon; "The Mass". How does 50cent a pint sound?? A mass is a two pint glass. For one pint of Yellow beard lager 4.50euro, for a mass it costs 5.00euro So for all you value hounds you can't beat that.

A great spot to go for a relaxing drink with friends or a place to stop en-route to a night club.I've been to the Fransican Well and the Bierhouse , the other two "Fancy-Beer" pub's on many occasions and am a fan of both. But the Abbot Ale house comes out on top against all its rival's. Well worth the visit.

This sounds like my kind of place. I must do a tour of all three the next time we have visitors in Cork.

Definately. Maybe on a nice day start early in the beer garden of the Franiscan Well, on to the Bierhaus and finish at the Abbot.
