I have enjoyed many of Ian Rankin's previous novels but felt the last couple of Rebus ones dragged along a bit, so was interested in reading this latest offering which stars all new characters. Unfortunately it just didn't live up to my expectations.
Again set in Edinburgh, the main character is Mike Mackenzie a self made millionaire who has sold his IT business and appears to be totally bored with his lot. He has begun to take an interest in art and gets involved with a banker, art professor and eventually some criminals in an effort to pull off the perfect art heist.
The plot wasn't very original and the majority of characters seemed clichéd and a smidge one dimensional. Disappointing.
